Edwardian Charm

Nostalgia Memorabilia as always been a popular subject with each generation that comes along, and its as popular as ever into the 21st Century. It evokes fond memories of holidays, shopping & especially our childhood when the pace of life was much much slower.

Chocolate bar's seemed much bigger & money went further. You could get far more for your sixpence back in them days, and the respect for money was much higher.

The corner shop was the place where you caught up on all the local gossip and information, and the corner shops were always filled with the wonderful aroma's of the International coffee's, the local cheese's and the cooked meats.
I bet many people from yester-year can still remember the chicken roasting on the spit! And soap powder filling the air.

The local shops back then would always wrap everything in brown paper and if you could not carry it back home, the local delivery boy would bring it to you on his classic black bicycle, (like the bicycle you can see outside of Odeon Antiques on St Edward Street) and the bicycle was always two sizes too big for the young fellow as well.

Every corner shop had a little wooden chair near the counter where locals could sit and chat away while awaiting their order. Many would watch the original bacon slicer moving back and forward whilst cutting through the meat that they would shortly be taking home with them for supper.

Everyone knew everyone back then and meeting new people to the area was a pleasure. And most people looked forward to the weekly shop. And today Leek still holds some of these wonderful quality's.

One such shop to visit in Leek holds all these quality's and much much more, and it also takes you further back down memory lane, where you can see Nostalgia Memorabilia, and even take some home with you.

Edwardian Charm aims to bring these such memories back to you with the Robert Opie Collection. The Robert Opie series is based upon the traditional enamel signs which enlivened the corner shop, brought colour and excitement to our railway stations, and informed, amused and infuenced our families for generations.

The Robert Opie collection provides a fascinating insight into the british way of life over the last 130 years, and several items from this collection can be purchased at Edwardian Charm, Leek.
