Leek NHS Press Release
|
Staffordshire Moorlands Primary Care Trust (PCT) is delighted to be sharing a marquee with the Staffordshire Moorlands Community and Voluntary Services at Saturday’s Leek Show.
Our aim is to raise the profile of all the good work that staff and independent colleagues are doing locally, strengthen our ties with the voluntary sector and let residents know what new or enhanced local services are in the pipeline.
We will have a number of displays ranging from information about the PCT to healthy living and smoking cessation, to give an idea of the breadth of services that we cover. There will be competitions, including a “What am I?” fruit-tasting competition for children, colouring competitions and various quizzes. On the smoking cessation stand, there will be plenty of information to help people quit and also the chance to have their carbon monoxide level tested.
There will be a preview of new services that are coming soon, such as “Physio Direct” and other local diagnostic services, and we are using the Show to launch our new Fridge Magnet.
This colour-coded magnet is designed to help residents make best use of the different NHS services that are available and can be kept as a continual reminder on the fridge or by the phone. We will be distributing them to households later in the year and they will also be available in GP practices, Pharmacies, Health Centres, our two Hospitals and via District Nurses, Health Visitors and so on. However, advance copies will be available exclusively at the Leek Show! There is a competition on the reverse for residents to win cash prizes and we hope that people will use the colour-coded information, from “Routine - Green” to “Emergency – Red” to help them decide the most appropriate course of action. Used correctly, the information it contains should help people avoid travelling into Stoke for services that they could receive locally.
Key to increasing the uptake of local healthcare is raising awareness of our excellent Minor Injuries Unit, based at Leek Moorlands Hospital. Open and caring for patients daily from 8.00am – 8.00pm, with no appointment needed, the Unit treats a wide range of Minor Injuries (and also some illnesses -call first on 01538 487104).
To find out what is happing in local health services right across the Staffordshire Moorlands, visit our marquee on Saturday!
